DescriptionDrogmi Lotsawa Shakya Yeshe was a great translator and an important source of the Sakya tradition’s teachings. In Tibet and Nepal he worked with Indian Buddhist masters to translate nearly seventy tantric texts from Sanskrit. He was also an important teacher to prominent Kagyu masters of his time. In this sculptural portrait he is depicted sitting in a vajra posture. His hands are in the gesture of teaching (dharmachakra), his right hand held up to his chest while his left is placed on his lap. His monk’s robe is finely designed brocade with patterns of flowers.late 18th century, ca. 1760s
